Camarath or “Camar’s Home” is not a single nation-state but rather a general term for the collective territory claimed and occupied by the Camari clans.
Born along the rocky coast of the Isle of Cathas and the fortress known as Camar’s Hold, Camarath has expanded to include settlements on several other islands despite many dangers. Camari controlled regions include:
Camari settlements beyond the capital are either freeholds or clan holds. The farther north in Camarath you go the more likely any settlement will be a freehold whereas the older settlements along the southern coast of Cathas, Valoa, and the southern archipelago of the Aberendaes are more often than not dominated by one clan or another.

The capital of Camarath is the dual-city of Camar’s Hold and Camar’s Rest. Whereas Camar’s Hold is a formidable fortress of titanic proportions rising high high upon the cliffs; Camar’s Rest is a city of floating huts, piers, and walkways built upon rooftops of an ancient, sunken city.
Camarath has long been ruled by a Monarch, a Queen drawn from a succession of daughters of the clan who the Camari people chose to lead them: The Wynleth Clan. This clan has now held the throne at Camar’s Hold since time immemorial. The firstborn of the Wynleth dynasty has always been a girl child. The current Queen, Seren Wynleth, has twin daughters – Gwyn and Eira – who are nearing their majority. She rules her small demesne with help from her Consort, King Gild. While the Queen assumes direct control over Camar’s Hold and Camar’s Rest, the other islands and settlements are governed by powerful clans who pay homage to Queen Seren as a mother figure. Though revered, the Queen is not an absolute monarch and must often negotiate and guide her people, rather than outright demand their obedience.
Every child can outgrow their mother, after all.
The Camari have oral records going back at least 200 years. These records and stories often slip into mythic timekeeping and until recently many of the Camari did not care to keep strict date that events have taken place.
In the past 50 years, however, the Pearl Divers and the intellectuals of Camar’s Hold developed a written script based off the script often found in the ruins around their settlements. Many Camari stories have been written down and this burgeoning ‘Camari History’ is kept in Camar’s Hold by the Pearl Divers and the Aspects.
